Who Am I?

A LifeWorthy day starts with questions. They start with what I know and move into what I must discover. I wrote this poem a long time ago, but I think it depicts the LifeWorthy struggle to find my identity.

What am I?

This question is easy to answer:

I am a daughter

I am a mother

I am a friend

I am a teacher

I am an adult

I am a woman of faith

I am all of them

I am none of them.

They are layers of labels on a tightly closed jar

That contains the truth of me.

What lays inside is the real answer.

it's much harder to pry out.

Who am I?

I am...

I don't know.

This one is harder to answer.

I am a unique person

I am a soul,

And a spirit.

I am a mind.

I am more than that.

I am less than that.

I know that I am me, but is that enough?

Does the world need another me?

Do I fit in the cracks and fill a me-shaped hole?

Does one even exist?

How am I...?

Going to learn today?

Going to thrive this week?

I am going to put my best foot forward

And look to lift myself up.

When I can't do it myself, I'll look to others.

I will look above.

I will be true to the stirrings of my heart,

Using my mind to guide my movements,

What am I?

Who am I?

How will I...?

My goal today is to find them:

The answers will fit today.

They may not fit tomorrow.
